No adverse techniques or hardware are ever allowed in Robins classes. No prong collars, choke chains, shock collars, or retractable leashes. No hitting, pulling, or yelling at your dog either. It has been proven that dogs love to work for positive feedback, whether treats, toys or pats. And that is how you and your dog are going to succeed in Robins classes.
Robin has earned her Certified Professional Dog Trainers certification (CPDT-KA) She is also a certified Canine Good Citizen Evaluator and has been a member of Pet Partners (formerly Delta Society) with her therapy animals for over 16 years. Robin continues her education on a daily basis by going to seminars, workshops and conferences. By enrolling in training classes for herself and her dogs and reading, reading, reading. Communication with other trainers is also an important aspect of learning for Robin. She feels we can gain so much as humans and trainers by continuing to share our knowledge with others. If you want to have fun with your dog while learning, Robin offers wonderful options for you.
About the class offerings:
Basic Manners class sessions include learning two different cues, (i.e. sit & touch) as well as a trick. Some of the basic cues and tricks that will be taught are: sit, stay, come, walking on a loose leash, shake, & spin…..
Robin limits the sizes of her classes, to 8 dogs big or small, in order to provide individual attention to each owner and doggie companion. Free play time is also a part of the class so the furry ones can learn proper playing social skills in a supervised environment.
Continuing Manners class sessions includes a few classes on the tennis courts to learn “chained cues”, such as a go to your spot or bed. This cue broken down is actually 3 requests (touch, sit or down, & stay), chained together to make one new cue. And the other classes are out in public to work on skills so you can take your dog with you where ever you want. Some of the places we visit are a book store, a hardware store, a garden center, a retail clothing store and/or a restaurant.
Tune-up Training is a drop in course for your and your pup. You have taken your basic classes, but would like to have continual training time with your dog. Providing different learning locations each week, this will be a fun way to hone your current skills and make them habitual for you and your pup. You can come to all 8 weeks in the drop in period or just come the weeks you want too. All for one fee.
Canine Good Citizen Classes are fun and varied. AKC has several different CGC titles your dog can now earn: AKC S.T.A.R Puppy, Canine Good Citizen, AKC Community Canine and AKC Urban Canine Good Citizen. Robin loves to help you achieve those goals.
Fun-gility classes are just that..fun for you and your dog.
Don’t have time for a 5 or 6 week class. Watch the website for One Hour Workshops that offer training in recalls, leash walking, nail trimming and more. It is a terrific way for you and your dog to concentrate on one cue only. And they are a great way to get some dog time with your pup by only having to commit to one class at a time.
Do you want to learn who to take your well mannered dog into public areas? Come join some of the One Hour Day Adventures. Ride a trolley, purchase some yummy trinkets at Neiman Marcus, read with us at Half Price Books or join us for brunch at a favorite dog friendly restaurant.
Robin welcomes kids to come and train their best friend in a class with their peers or family. Having your child involved in the training with their dogs. helps your human kids learn self-confidence and benefit in the rewards of teaching their favorite furry friend. Mom and Dad are always included in class as mentors for their kids as well as learning the same cues that your child is learning. This will keep the whole family on the same page and your furry kids will not get confused when asked to do something.
Need some one on one time with your favorite pooch? I offer private sessions as well. I come to you, we work on what you feel are the most pressing issues and the session lasts about an hour. A perfect way for you and your family to learn in your dogs most comfortable space.
Do you feel your dog needs training in a more immersed environment? I offer Sleep Over Training Camp. It is a 2 week board and train situation. Your dog stays with me in my home for 14 days. Not only will we customize a learning program for you, your dog will also learn life skills while living with me and my dogs in my home.
